Garlic Soup: A Winter Immune System Booster

Last Updated on 7 March 2024 by Brisbane Livewell Clinic

A Great Immune System Boost Recipe.

Can you boost your Immune System while eating tasty foods? Yes, you can and certain foods can accelerate your healing from cold & flu and still taste great!

Do you have a cough? Have you been sneezing lately? Feeling tired and low on energy? These symptoms may indicate a cold. Before popping pills, try natural remedies, such as raw honey or essential oils. From taking steamy showers to eating garlic, there are plenty of ways to stop a cold in its tracks. Drugs and pills carry side effects that are not worth the risk. They can make you sleepy, drain your energy, and create an imbalance with your gut flora.

The immune system comprises special organs, cells and chemicals that fight infection (microbes). The immune system’s main parts are white blood cells, antibodies, the complement system, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus, and the bone marrow. These are the parts of your immune system that actively fight infection.

Load Up on Cold-Busting Foods

What you eat has a direct impact on immune function. Certain foods can accelerate healing from cold and flu while boosting your defence mechanisms and Immune System. For instance, Garlic is considered nature’s best antibiotic. It kills harmful bacteria, protects your cells from oxidative stress, and prevents viral infections. Its healing power is backed up by science. Hot soup can help too as it relieves both flu and cold symptoms. Make sure you also eat foods rich in vitamin C, such as kiwi, oranges, lemon, and berries.

For a meal that will pack a powerful punch and help stop any cold in its tracks, try our nourishing garlic soup.
